What Even Is a Paper Jam? (And Why You Might Need One)
Let’s clear something up right away: no printers were harmed in the making of this event.
When we say Paper Jam, we’re not talking about office tech failures. We’re talking about one of our most joyful, scrappy, tape and glue-infused gatherings here at The Creative Jam—a weekend-long celebration of paper, pictures, stories, and that sweet sound of a paper trimmer slicing through cardstock.
If you’ve never been to a Paper Jam scrapbooking event, allow me to introduce you to the creative weekend you didn’t know you needed.
So… What Is It?
A Paper Jam scrapbooking event is part crafting retreat, and part “I finally got to use that paper I’ve been hoarding since 2009.” It’s a few glorious days in our cozy log cabin studio, surrounded by fellow paper people who totally get you.
You bring your photos, your projects, your Pinterest dreams. We supply the space, the big tables, the good lighting, the coffee, the snacks, the music, and the vibes.
Whether you’re making photo albums, memory journals, mixed media collages, or simply trying to finish that one layout you started three years ago—it all counts. You can work at your own pace, ask for help, show off your progress, or just soak up the creativity in the air like it’s scented with Mod Podge and nostalgia.
What Makes It Different from Other Retreats?
Glad you asked.
- It’s relaxed. No rigid schedules or pressure to produce a masterpiece.
- It’s social. You’ll be surrounded by people who get why you’ve saved that one patterned paper for seven years “just in case.”
- It’s spacious. Each attendee gets their own 6-foot table (because creative sprawl is real).
- It’s fun. There are giveaways, optional challenges, cozy corners, and plenty of laughter.
- It’s beautiful. Did we mention the log cabin? The soaring ceilings? The 42 windows? Yeah. It’s a vibe.
But I’m Not a Scrapbooker…
That’s okay! Paper Jams are for anyone who loves paper-based creativity. We’ve had:
- Art journalers
- Card makers
- Collage artists
- Watercolorists
- “I just needed a weekend away from laundry” people
It’s less about labels and more about giving yourself space to make something by hand—without interruption, guilt, or judgment.
What to Expect at a Paper Jam
- Hours of uninterrupted creative time
- A few light meals and snacks provided (and coffee—lots of coffee)
- Friendly people who might become your new creative crew
- Some themes, some sparkle, maybe a chipmunk or two
We call them Paper Jams because they’re collaborative, improvisational, and joyfully messy—just like a good music jam, only with washi tape instead of bass lines.

Ready to Jam?
Our next Paper Jam is always on the horizon—and if you’re curious, you’re welcome. Whether you bring a trunk full of supplies or just show up with a notebook and a glue stick, there’s a seat at the table for you.
The next one is special- it’s the one year Anniversary of the Creative Jam!
And if anyone asks, yes—you’re officially a paper artist now. No magazine feature required.
Until next time,
Keep cutting, pasting, and making space for joy.
